Recycle Aluminum Cans

premier • Dec 01, 2015

The most common way to recycle aluminum cans is to simply take them to an aluminum can recycle facility, where the consumer is often paid.

What happens when you recycle aluminum cans?

After recycling aluminum cans, the aluminum is then collected and taken to a treatment plant where it is sorted and cleaned for reprocessing. It then goes through a re-melt process and turns into molten aluminum, removing any coatings or inks. The aluminum is then made into large blocks called ingots, which contains about 1.6 million recycled aluminum cans. The ingots are sent to mills where they are rolled out, which gives the aluminum more flexibility and strength. The rolled-out aluminum is used to make more aluminum cans and in as little as 6 weeks, the recycled aluminum cans are refilled reused.
